Badplaas and surroundings in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa offer tourists a variety of activities to keep curious visitors busy for weeks.

Nestled at the foothills of the Ndlumudlumu Hills, the small town of Badplaas originated because of the hot springs bubbling from the ground. The town congregates around these sulphur springs that delivers approximately 30 000 liters of warm water an hour.Badplaas roughly translated means 'bathing farm'.

According to PBJ Erasmus, Op Pad Deur Suid-Afrika, Jonathan Ball Publishers, 2004, the Swazi people discovered the fountain and called it eManzana meaning 'healing waters'. During the 1870's, they showed the fountain to two white hunters, Jacob de Clerq and Van Der Merwe after which the upper chief donated the fountain to De Clerq. He established a trading post close to the fountain and soon people flocked to the fountain to make use of its healing powers. Today the fountain is in the heart of a holiday resort administered by Forever Resorts.

Badplaas is a small town with very few amenities but tourists can refuel and obtain supplies at the local shops.

Accommodation at Forever Resort Badplaas

The well-known hydro spa at Forever Resorts Badplaas attracts thousands of visitors every year. This resort offers accommodation ranging from camping to luxury guesthouses and hotel rooms with prices varying from off-peak (midweek) to high season (holidays). The close to 300 campsites with electrical power and ablutions close by are often fully booked well in advance. Although the stands are a little small may lead to complaints during peak periods, the ground is level and the facilities of the resort are within easy walking distance.

One of the main reasons for the popularity of the Forever Resort Badplaas is the hydro spa operating on the premises. Hydro sessions are done from 07h00 to 15h45 and 17h00 to 20h45. Three heated pools, where the water temperature is kept at 44 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius , one cold pool (24 degrees Celsius) and four private hydro jets pampers guests and adds to the charm of the resort. Other hydro spa treatments offered by the resort include facials, hydro bath treatments, hand and foot treatments, Thalasso treatments, waxing, tints, massages and dead sea treatments.
